Welcome to the Lower Nipit Improvement District
The Lower Nipit Improvement District is a local government body and subject to regulations under the Local Government Act. Unlike a Municipality or Regional District, our responsibilities are not widespread, and our purpose is to manage the water quantity of Twin Lake on behalf of the local residents and property owners who have property beside the lake. Our work includes:
- monitoring and reporting water levels to various stakeholders
- communicating with the Ministry of Forests Lands Natural Resources Rural Development for policies and to submit our water levels
- monitoring the Ministry Ground Water Observations Wells #282, #403 & #404
- monitoring and reporting ice on and off dates
- maintaining and running a pump to reduce lake levels as directed by provincial authorities
- clearing culverts and other access points in and out of the lake
- meeting and co-ordinating with RDOS staff
- meeting and co-ordinating with other community members and groups
- providing necessary information and updates to LNID members
- holding trustee and annual meetings
Governance, financial and administrative duties are carried out by the three trustees and two additional board members who volunteer their time.
